The Heraldry Society of Africa (HSA) operates under the patronage of Rukirabasaija Agutamba Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, Omukama of the Kingom of Bunyoro-Kitara.
It is registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO) in The City of Hoima, Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom (Republic of Uganda) | No. 220498.
Individuals and corporate bodies in possession of armorial bearings granted by recognized heraldic authorities of other sovereign countries may apply to register them in the Public Register of Arms, Flags and Badges. If research, new artwork or changes to the armorial bearings are required, then the request will be handled as a petition for a grant.
Individuals or Corporate bodies desiring to be registered armorial bearings by lawful authority must send a letter addressed to The Heraldry Society of Africa (HSA) info@heraldry-africa.org stating the wish to:
Grants of armorial bearings are honours from the Subnational Monarchy Bunyoro-Kitara (Republic of Uganda) and The King of Ouidah (Republic of Benin). They provide recognition for contributions that individuals and corporate bodies make in Africa and elsewhere.
All people or corporate bodies (municipalities, churches, schools, societies, associations, institutions, etc.) may petition to receive a grant of armorial bearings.
Three categories of armorial bearings can be requested: coats of arms, flags and badges.
A coat of arms is centred on a shield and may be displayed with a helmet, mantling, a crest and a motto.
A grant of supporters is limited to corporate bodies and to some individuals in specific categories.
a) “register armorial bearings with the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Authority under powers exercised by the Royal Office of Orders, Honors and Award Affairs.”;
b) “register armorial bearings with The King of Ouidah Authority under powers exercised by the The Royal General Register of Coat of Arms (RGRG) and represented by The Royal Office of Order Affairs (ROOA).”;
c) “register armorial bearings with the Heraldry Society of Africa (HSA).”
